Hispanic Heritage Month begins on September 15, the anniversary of independence for five Latin American countries—Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico declared its independence on September 16, and Chile on September 18.

Resources for Spanish-speaking parents with children (deaf or hearing) learning American Sign Language (ASL), English and/or Spanish together
Talking Hands
A complete set of 18 titles; Reading level Grade 1; Interest level K-5. These titles offer basic introductions to ASL with accompanying text in both English and Spanish. Photographs and illustrations help the audience to view signing as easy and exciting. Both English and Spanish translations are included for each of the words that are profiled. Children used as models are students at Chicago’s Alexander Graham Bell Elementary School.
