BRING ASL TO YOUR COMMUNITY, Your World
ASL Access, a partner of the National Literary Society of the Deaf, is the world's only organization dedicated to promotion of wider access to a sign language among the general population.
ASL Access serves as a liaison between ASL publishers, library administrators, sponsors, and others interested in promoting public access to ASL videos.
In the last ten years, ASL Access has placed a collection of over 200 ASL videos in 28 libraries nationwide. However, since the advent of DVD and video streaming, many ASL publishers did not transfer their VHS material to DVD. ASL Access never held copyright on any of the videos they placed in libraries. Some libraries have removed their VHS ASL tapes, along with all other VHS tapes, as obsolete.
Today ASL Access primarily serves libraries by providing ASL video reviews and ASL publisher contact information on the website.
Chris Wixtrom, founder and president, plans to move forward with a new vision for ASL Access, which goes beyond library access. "I would like to see ASL Access find new ways to broadly distribute ASL video content", she said. ASL Access welcomes new volunteers. Help ASL Access bring ASL to your community, and the world.
